World-class Fishing
Whether you seek a lazy afternoon in a sun-dappled stream or that once-in-a-lifetime fishing experience, whether you're a novice or seasoned professional, the streams and rivers that flow throughout Newaygo run with the world-class fishing adventure you desire. For many, a life-long addiction grows after landing a 25+ pound steelhead on fly-fishing gear. Nationally-known fly-fishing expert, author and outfitter Matt Supinski of Gray Drake Outfitters can often be seen working the waters of the Muskegon River, right along the Newaygo Riverbank.

Newaygo is a sportsman's paradise, thanks to the Great Lakes, 234 natural lakes and more than 350 miles of rivers and streams that run through the county, nearly all home to the 149 types of fish native to Michigan. About 25 species are pursued for sport, including lake, brook, brown, rainbow, and steelhead trout. After being introduced in the Great Lakes, Coho and Chinook salmon rapidly became important game fish.
